12 Day Kenya & Tanzania Safari



Day 1: Nairobi
27th of June 2019
When you arrive at the Nairobi International airport, I will be there to give you a very warm welcome. With our competent driver on the scene, we will transport you to our first nights luxury accommodation at the Boma Hotel. This grand hotel is equipped with all the requirements you’ll need for a pleasurable and satisfying rest. It is expected that you will need to recuperate from the flight hence there are no scheduled activities for the first afternoon/evening so that you have sufficient time to recuperate. You can take advantage of the many conveniences at the hotel to help unwind. Whether you choose to relish a massage at the spa. Unwind by the swimming pool or have a drink at the bar, you can be sure that you have a pleasurable resting experience. Dinner is not included in the plan, hence you will be paying for dinner from your pocket. For dinner, there are many options you can explore. You could decide to eat in the Boma Nairobi’s in-house restaurant Johari restaurant, you could cruise around Nairobi to find a fantastic spot or relax in your room and enjoy room service which is available 24 hours.

Day 2: Nairobi – Amboseli
28th of June 2019
After an early breakfast our drivers will pick us up from The Boma Hotel at 8:30am and we take a short drive to Nairobi Giraffe Centre. Here you get a chance to see the giraffes up close and even hand feed them on the platform or from ground level. There is also a 1.5-kilometre walking trail with plenty of bird species. There are also smaller animals of the trail such as squirrel, warthog and the world’s smallest antelope species dik-dik. There is also a teahouse where you can relax and have a drink while watching the giraffes, and a large souvenir shop. All proceeds at the Giraffe Centre go to charities which either help conservation or the underprivileged.
We depart the giraffe centre at approximately 10.30am and drive to David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage where we will spend 1-hour watch and photograph the baby elephants at feeding time and play together in the mud pool.
At 12.OO we drive to a nearby restaurant for lunch before departing for Amboseli. The drive will take us approximately four and a half to five hours including a stop halfway to stretch our legs. We check in to Amboseli Sopa Lodge around 6:00pm and enjoy drinks and views of Mount Kilimanjaro which is Africa’s highest mountain.

Day 3: Amboseli-Taita Hills
29th of June 2019
After an early morning breakfast we enter the Amboseli National Park gates at 7:00am and take our first safari. The name “Amboseli” comes from a Maasai word meaning “salty dust”, and it is one of the best places in Africa to view large herds of elephants up close. Nature lovers can explore five different habitats here ranging from the dried-up bed of Lake Amboseli, wetlands with sulphur springs, the savanna and woodlands. Amboseli is home to large herds of elephants, cape buffalo, zebra and wildebeest. Lions and cheetah are also found here however are not regularly seen. Other animals include hyena, impala, thompson’s gazelle, masai giraffe, ostrich and hippopotamus. We spend our morning on safari while enjoying views of Africa’s highest mountain Mount Kilimanjaro.

At 11:00am we return to Amboseli Sopa Lodge to collect our luggage departing for Taita Hills Game Reserve. It is roughly a 6 hour drive including a stop half way to stretch our legs and have lunch before arriving at the amazing Sarova Salt Lick Lodge. The evening is spent game viewing from the lodges viewing decks overlooking the waterhole where large herds of elephants, cape buffalo and much more regularly come to drink at all hours of the day/night.

Day 4: Taita Hills
30th of June 2019
At the break of dawn, we take an early morning game drive around Taita hills and brings you back to the Lodge for breakfast. After breakfast, we go back for a mid-morning game drive exploration. We will explore most of the area’s common inhabitants which are celebrated predators like lions, cheetah and leopards. The exploration would also bring us closer to their natural adversaries like the Zebra, Wildebeest, Giraffe, and Hippo and many large herds of elephant. We will drive back to our lodge around lunchtime, depending on animal activity. Our afternoon is spent at the lodge viewing wildlife from the viewing decks overlooking the waterhole or watching the wildlife up close from the underground hide at the edge of the waterhole. At 4:00 pm you have the choice of another game drive or you may wish to stay at the lodge and enjoy the game viewing.

Day 5: Taita Hills-Lake Manyara
1st of July 2019
After an early breakfast we depart Taita Hills with a short game drive on the way as we leave the park behind us. We drive south to the Tanzania border, stopping for lunch on the way. We arrive at Lake Manyara in the early afternoon. At 4pm we take our first game drive in Tanzania. Lake Manyara National Park is an unspoiled paradise of ground water forest fed by underground springs and teeming with wildlife such as elephants, hippos, giraffes, buffaloes, antelopes, pink flamingos, leopards blue monkeys and some of the largest baboon troupes in Africa. However, it’s most iconic attraction is undoubtedly its tree-climbing lions, and people flock from all over the world to see these iconic predators lounging in the trees.

Day 6: Ngorongoro Crater
2nd of July 2019
At 6am we take an early morning game drive around Lake Manyara before returning at 8:00am for Morning breakfast. After breakfast we depart our lodge with a packed lunch for another safari in Lake Manyara. In the early afternoon we drive to Ngorongoro Crater. Situated in the shadow of the Ngorongoro Crater the area around Karatu is perfect for exploring two of Tanzania’s gems, the Crater and Lake Manyara National Park. This region is one of the best places in East Africa to see leopards, which are rarely seen in most East African National Parks. Around 5:00pm we arrive at our lodge for check in and dinner.

Day 7: Ngorongoro Crater
2nd of July 2019
After an early morning breakfast we descend into the Ngorongoro Crater for a full day game drive with a packed lunch. Formed by the collapse of an ancient volcano, the Ngorongoro crater is 18km across and over half a kilometre deep. The crater floor has a variety of habitats, including lakes & wetlands, woodlands and open savannah. All three big cats (lion leopard and cheetah) call the Ngorongoro crater home along with black rhino, elephants, cape buffalo, wildebeest, zebra, hippopotamus and much more. At around 4:00pm we return to our lodge for a relaxing evening.

Day 8: Ngorongoro Crater-Serengeti
3rd of July 2019
After breakfast we take a short drive to the Serengeti. The Serengeti is ranked by African Geographic as the number 1 National Park in Africa for a safari and 2nd best National Park to see wild lions. Enjoy a game drive along the way keeping an eye out for its well-known predators en-route to Serengeti Serena Safari Lodge arriving in time for lunch. Afternoon game drive in world famous Serengeti National Park.

Day 9: Serengeti
4th of July 2019
Known affectionately as ‘big cat country, the central region of the Serengeti is the park’s most visited region. The Central Serengeti boasts the most accommodation options and the best opportunity to see big cats such as lions, cheetahs, and the always elusive leopard in the wild.
The presence of these predators in no way dissuades herbivores from calling the region home, and visitors can expect to see everything from diminutive impala to towering elephants and giraffes as they drive amidst the kopjes and acacia trees.
Today we take 3 game drives which take place at sunrise, after breakfast and late afternoon.

Day 10: Serengeti-Masai Mara
5th of July 2019
After an early morning breakfast, we check out of Serengeti Serena Safari Lodge and take a full day game drive heading north through The Serengeti and return to Kenya arriving at the Masai Mara stopping to have a packed lunch along the way. We arrive at camp in the late afternoon where we take some time to relax at the award winning 5-star luxury Ashnil Tented Camp.

Day 11: Masai Mara
6th of July 2019
At dawn we take a early morning game drive in search of the Masai Mara’s lions, leopard, cheetah, elephant, cape buffalo, black rhinoceros, hippopotamus and many more species. After breakfast visit masai village where we join in the cultural dances, learn about their culture, visit a masai school and shop for souvenirs at the masai village markets. After lunch we relax at lodge before we take an afternoon game drive.

Day 12: Masai Mara to Nairobi (Depart)
7th of July 2019
This morning we take have an early breakfast and have a short game drive en-route to the Masai Mara Gates. We arrive in Nairobi at about 1:00pm and have lunch at a local restaurant. You are then transferred to Nairobi International Airport for departure or a Nairobi hotel if you wish to stay longer.
